The Michigan Wolverines have added another member to their 2026 recruiting class with a commitment on Wednesday night from wing prospect Malachi Brown.

Brown, a product of Knoxville Catholic HS, is the third member of Michigan’s 2026 class, along with forward Quinn Costello and international center Marcus Moller.

Brown, who stands at 6-5, is a late bloomer out of Tennessee who earned his first scholarship offer this summer from UC Santa Barbara. He is not currently rated on Rivals, but is seen as a senior riser and potential defensive-first glue guy for Michigan on the wing.

Michigan head coach Dusty May spoke this summer about taking chances on under-the-radar recruits and how the rosters expanding to 15 scholarship spots allows you to do that.

“We do need to win consistently, and I think once you lose momentum in today’s landscape, it’s tough to recover from,” May said on July 13. “I think it gives you an opportunity to go after some guys you see something in that maybe could just be a gamble or a calculated risk.”

May also said this summer that to be a championship-level program, they have to have players that are retained year-to-year and fill their roles.

“if we’re ever going to be at a championship level, and time will tell if we’re going to be in a championship level this season, a big part of it is going to be because of the leadership and continuity,” May said. “We went to the portal and signed this guy and that guy and we brought in this five-star recruit and this four-star and whatever the case, those guys get lost in the shuffle but if we win this year at the level we’re capable of, if we max out as a group, those returners are going to be a big reason why.”
