The Michigan Wolverines have moved up in this week’s AP Poll after opening their Big Ten slate of games with a 30-27 win at Nebraska, rising up to No. 18 in the country. U-M was ranked No. 21 last week.

The Wolverines are one of seven Big Ten teams ranked this week, along with Ohio State at No. 1 followed by Penn State (No. 3), Oregon (No. 6), Indiana (No. 11), USC (No. 21) and Illinois (No. 23). The Wolverines play only two of those teams this year, with a road trip to USC on Oct. 11 and the Buckeyes coming to town on Thanksgiving weekend for the regular season finale.

Michigan was led by associate head coach Biff Poggi this week again, with Sherrone Moore serving the second week of a school-imposed two-game suspension. He was proud of the message that the Wolverines made in Lincoln.

“The statement was, I think, multifaceted,” Poggi said after the win. “First of all, we love our coach. He’s our coach, he’s our coach for a reason. He recruited the team, he prepared the team. That was the first statement. And then the second statement was there’s this narrative going around that we can’t win on the road, and that was a statement. A little bit of a narrative like, hey, if it’s a really lively hard place to play, we kind of — we’re not finishing those games. I think a lot of that was a statement today.

Here is the full poll released on Sunday afternoon following the Week 3 slate of games. Each week’s AP Poll will be released on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET for the rest of the season.
