Michigan Wolverines football has a vacancy for its head-coaching position, after Jim Harbaugh departed for the Los Angeles Chargers following his ninth season in Ann Arbor. Harbaugh has advocated for offensive coordinator and line coach Sherrone Moore to land the job, and he’s the overwhelming favorite. Current and past players have also shown their support for Moore, including running back Blake Corum, who just wrapped up a legendary career at U-M himself.

Appearing on CBS Sports Radio, Corum — Michigan’s all-time leader with 58 career rushing touchdowns — shared why he believes Moore is the ideal replacement for Harbaugh, who led the Maize and Blue to three Big Ten championships and the 2023 national title.

“I mean, because he’s a Michigan man,” Corum said. “He’s been in the program for a long time, he’s been a great O.C. and he has top-10 wins under his belt already as a head coach. So, I think he’s shown that he’s the guy for the job. He’s learned under Coach Harbaugh, and like I said, he’s already had experience being a head coach when Coach Harbaugh was suspended. So, I think Coach Moore is definitely the man for the job.

“I think we go in-house with this one and keep the culture going down in Michigan and make sure everyone’s on the same page. Coach Moore would make a great head coach, and I think he is the guy. I think we all know that. Obviously, we have to wait seven days before they can name a head coach, but he’s the guy.”

Corum played for Harbaugh all four years at Michigan, and the two will be in the NFL together next season. The running back wasn’t surprised by Harbaugh’s move to head back to the pros.

“Not shocking at all,” he said. “Coach Harbaugh is a man with goals, and he set out to win a national championship and change Michigan around, and he did that. So, why not go back and give it a round two at trying to win a Super Bowl? He’s such a great coach. He’s won everywhere he’s been.

“Coach means a lot to me, so seeing him being the head coach of the Chargers, I know he’s not going to need a couple years to change that program around. They’re going to win right away, and I’m excited to see what he does.”

Harbaugh, who reportedly will have plenty of control over the Chargers’ roster and personnel decisions, could draft Corum this spring.

“That would be great,” the Michigan running back said. “Coach Harbaugh is such a great coach. I loved playing for him. I would do anything for Coach Harbaugh. And so, hey, you never know. Coach might end up picking me up in the draft. But whether he does or doesn’t, I know he’s going to be such a successful head coach, as he always has been. I know the LA Chargers are going to do big things with Coach Harbaugh in charge.”
