Michigan basketball received huge news Tuesday when 2026 Boston (Mass.) The Newman School four-star power forward Quinn Costello pledged to head coach Dusty May and the Maize and Blue. Costello is the No. 28 overall player and fifth-best power forward in the 2026 class, according to Rivals.

More from The Wolverine’s Chris Balas:
“I’d say I’m a 6’10”, long, versatile, wing forward,” Costello told On3 earlier this year. “I play a lot of the floor, I guard more fours and fives than threes, but I’d say I’m pretty flexible. I can really shoot it, that’s like my number one strength. I’ve been known as a knockdown shooter for most of my life, but I’ve started to do a lot more, like putting on the floor, driving closeouts, offensive rebounding, running the floor, all that stuff.

“The relationship piece is going to be big for me. I’m most successful when coaches really trust me, and I really trust coaches, and we have a super strong, unbreakable relationship. I say it a lot, and I hate to say it, but if basketball doesn’t work out, I’m still at a school where I’m set up for success.”

Costello had had a good relationship with Dusty May and his assistants heading into the visit. He emerged a Wolverine.

“That’s a great coaching staff,” he said. “I find myself to be most successful in systems where the player-coach relationship is more than just passing a player-coach, when you really get to know each other. So, I really value that, and so do they. I really like that about them.

“It’s Michigan. The Big House. They took me everywhere, and all the facilities are amazing. The football field is ginormous. It’s awesome.”

Rivals’ Jamie Shaw broke down what Costello brings to Michigan.

Costello blew up over the offseason. At this time last year, he was unranked and not even a starter for his prep team.

Both On3’s Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman pick Nebraska to cover against Michigan. Wasserman even has the Cornhuskers winning straight up.

Quote Of The Day

“Big Ten Conference play is really all that matters. I think we got a good opportunity to go send a statement this weekend, so just focusing on that. Just go prove what team we are when we play our best. We’re not worried about the outside factors or anything like that. Just doing our best and everyone playing their 1/11th.”
