Newsstand: Michigan beats out Notre Dame for another commitment

Tweets Of The Day
The recruiting hits keep on coming for Notre Dame. Michigan beat out the Fighting Irish for four-star defensive lineman McHale Blade on Monday, then followed that up by landing three-star defensive tackle Alister Vallejo Tuesday evening.
More on Vallejo from The Wolverine’s EJ Holland:
Vallejo made his first visit to Michigan in the spring and felt comfortable in Ann Arbor.
“The main highlight was the hospitality,” Vallejo said. “Everybody was just so nice. It was just a welcoming environment. People are nice. Walking around, you get a Go Blue from someone. The campus was nice, too. We saw a bunch of it. It was just great overall.”
Aside from touring campus and talking with the staff, Vallejo also had an opportunity to take in a U-M practice. Vallejo liked what he saw from the defense and sees himself as a fit.
“Everyone is violent,” Vallejo said. “Everyone is aggressive. But also, the atmosphere is hype. Everyone is getting after it. It’s my style. I like being aggressive and getting after one another. I think I could see myself playing anywhere I’m needed, but I like the three-tech the most.”
Notre Dame hosted Vallejo for a visit earlier this month and seemed to have plenty of buzz leading up to his decision. However, Michigan defensive line coach Lou Esposito never stopped working and was able to help U-M beat out the Irish.
Michigan collective Champions Circle hosted a golf outing at True North in Harbor Springs Monday, featuring head coaches Sherrone Moore and Dusty May, along with ESPN insider and prominent alum Adam Schefter and other special guests.
Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood shared a video showing some of his offseason.
Quote Of The Day
“It’s been a while since we’ve seen him really in action, but I think what he showed as an underclassman is certainly very promising, and I think he’s one of the prospects we’re more eager to see back on the field early in his senior season. Regardless of the incomplete evaluation, I think there’s certainly a lot of reason for optimism based on what he showed as an underclassman. Obviously, a big pickup for Michigan with him being a top prospect in Chicago and hotly recruited among regional recruiting rivals.”
