Michigan Wolverines football head coach Sherrone Moore joined Jon Jansen for a two-minute video that’s the extent of his public comments on national signing day to this point, discussing his 2026 class that currently ranks 12th in the nation and fourth in the Big Ten.

The second-year head coach is pleased with the group that’s coming in.

“I see a team with a lot of size, versatility at different positions,” Moore said. “We built it, really, from inside out. We filled a lot of holes within the D-line, the EDGEs, the O-line, the outside pieces with the receivers, DBs. And we’ll continue to do that as we progress.”

The Wolverines definitely added reinforcements on the defensive line, with a group headlined by five-star+ EDGE Carter Meadows and four-star tackle Titan Davis. Moore mentioned that Michigan had a need on the defensive line, with the graduation of several key pieces — including all but one starter, junior Trey Pierce — coming after this season.

“We got four guys, I think, on the inside that we had to replace, and EDGE guys like [senior] Derrick Moore and [senior] Jaishawn [Barham], we had to replace. So, it felt like we had a need to bring in some immediate impact guys. Now, whether they play and start as freshmen, we’ll see, but we felt like we needed guys to push the guys that we had in those rooms.”

The Wolverines fended off a late push by Virginia Tech to retain four-star wide receiver Travis Johnson, who’s one of three wideouts in the class. Michigan also brought in a top-end tight end in four-star Moose Ludwig and five-star running back in Savion Hiter, though he hasn’t yet been announced as a signee as of the release of Moore’s interview and this publishing.

“Yeah, I mean we wanted to get talented guys on the outside, add to the rooms,” Moore said. “Add to the running back room, add to the tight end room.”

The Wolverines’ started three redshirt freshman offensive linemen by the end of the season, and freshman Andrew Babalola was pushing to be a starter during fall camp, before he went down with a season-ending knee injury. Michigan also reeled in a strong offensive line class, highlighted by four-star tackle Malakai Lee, who hails from Honolulu, Hawaii.

“And, obviously, complete that O-line room, to make sure that thing’s solid for years to come,” Moore continued.

Michigan offensive line coach Grant Newsome was the primary recruiter for Lee, and made multiple trips to Hawaii to see him, according to Moore.

“There were multiple times, and Grant would go out there and come back on a red eye an hour or so later, so he put on the most ridiculous miles, and I think his Delta Skymiles is up through the roof right now, but I feel like we’re in a good place,” the Michigan coach said.
