Key quotes from Michigan captains Derrick Moore and Max Bredeson
Max Bredeson
On what the rivalry with Michigan State means to him, a kid from Wisconsin: “I’ve been to this game a lot of times now. I got to watch my brother play in it. This will be my fifth time being a part of this rivalry, so I feel like I’m really part of it. I feel like I’m part of the state — hopefully an honorary member of the state of Michigan at this point. This one definitely means a lot. It’s an in-state rivalry, and I’m happy to be a part of it.
On blocking defensive tackles like he did against Washington: “Fun to do. Whatever is on the call sheet for that game, just get ready to do it.”
On his wam block on a defensive tackle during Jordan Marshall’s touchdown run in Michigan’s win over Washington: “Yeah, it was well drawn up on the whiteboard. But you still have to go do it. You’ve got to do it, you’ve got to block the guy. Just being able to have that in the play book definitely helps, and I was just excited to help get Michigan a touchdown.”

On the role of a captain this week: “Definitely a fun role. I enjoy being able to kind of spread what this game is about, having played in it and being able to be a guy for the new guys playing in this game, what it’s about. A lot of guys have played it in now. A lot of the new guys are either from the state or have gotten to kind of see what it’s about. But I take pride in being able to be a guy to kind of introduce what this game is about.

On his reaction to Washington using a tight end to block him: “Sometimes I don’t even really notice it. I just already have my rush plan thought of, and I just go with it. Going back and thinking about that play, I was really just thinking about getting off the ball. When I got off the ball, I saw the tight end went around him. The quarterback was right there. That’s it, really.”
On his performance in Michigan’s win over Washington: “Really just stressing my preparation for the week. I pretty much knew how they were going to attack us and also attack me. I want to give a big shoutout to the scout O-linemen for helping prepare me for last week, as well. I feel like they played a big part of it, as well. But it was really just my preparation for that week that helped me go out there and perform well.”
