Sayfie’s first takeaway surrounded Michigan junior quarterback J.J. McCarthy’s career-high 3 interceptions, including 2 in the first half. The Wolverines only led 14-6 at the break despite averaging 8.2 yards per play, due in large part to the sloppiness and mistakes. In his postgame press conference, McCarthy took full responsibility for his interceptions.
“I’ll take all those on the chin. Put them all on me,” McCarthy said. “There’s a lot of stuff that obviously didn’t go my way, didn’t go the offense’s way, but I just can’t wait to watch the tape and see the mistakes that were made and get better from it, honestly. But I’m going to take all of those on the chin. They’re all on me.
The Michigan signal caller said the picks didn’t weigh on him in between drives, though he didn’t bounce back as nicely as he probably would’ve liked to.

“No. No matter what, whether it’s a great throw or an interception, I’m always going to move on and stay in the present moment, no matter what it is,” McCarthy explained. “It just didn’t go well after the first one. I just gotta watch the film and see what I can do better.”
Many national title contenders struggled Saturday, a reminder that there are ups and downs to seasons and to not take winning for granted. Michigan still won by three scores and is now headed into Big Ten play undefeated.
“It was just one of them days now. We were ready,” senior running back Blake Corum said. “We had a great week of practice; we prepared a lot. It was just one of those days. In the first half, we had, what, four drives, one being a two-minute. BG did a good job of eating up the clock. We prepared. We prepare for everyone the same way — the same intensity, the same fire. It was just one of them days in college football, but we pulled it off, and it’s time for Big Ten play.”
