Michigan football has offered 2027 defensive back Charles Woodson Jr. — the son of the Wolverine legend with the same name. Charles Woodson Sr. won the 1997 Heisman Trophy and led Michigan to the national championship that same season.

More from The Wolverine’s Ethan McDowell:
Woodson Jr., a 5-11, 155-pound safety from Orlando (Fla.) Lake Nona High has already racked up double-digit Division-I offers from the likes of Texas A&M, Florida State and Ole Miss. The Wolverines are the first Big Ten program to extend a scholarship.

He spoke with Wolverine secondary coach LaMar Morgan about a week ago, and that led to this week’s offer. Woodson Jr. recently visited Texas A&M and thinks he will get up to Ann Arbor at some point but does not have anything planned yet.

“It feels great,” Woodson Jr. told The Wolverine.

The rapidly rising safety prospect recorded 53 total tackles (22 solo) as a sophomore and secured 1 interception to go along with 2 defended passes and 1 fumble recovery. He logged an interception and 2 passes defended as a freshman as well.

Woodson Sr. is a member of College Football Hall of Fame’s class of 2018. Three years later, the Pro Football Hall of Fame inducted him as well. During his Michigan career, Woodson Sr. logged a whopping 16 interceptions, including 7 during the 1997 season. He won the Bronko Nagurski and Chuck Bednarik awards that season, taking home the Walter Camp and Jim Thorpe trophies as well as he swept the major defensive awards with the Wolverines.

Michigan freshman guard Winters Grady is on campus in Ann Arbor. The team’s newcomers are all expected to arrive by June 16, and some are already in town.

Michigan football general manager Sean Magee was reportedly a candidate for the Navy athletic director job, but the institution has hired USF athletic director Michael Kelly. Magee is entering his second season in his current role for the Wolverines. Navy is his alma mater.

Quote Of The Day

“I want to see everything I’m excited to get back to campus. I want to get more of a look at the scheme they run and see if it’s a good situation for me to go into. I want to see the depth.”
