Michigan is nearing its game against Ohio State, and everyone is excited.
“This is the longest week of the year,” Balas said. “It drags, and we get to spend time with family. It’s awesome. You have to do a lot of work before Thursday to get all your work done, but it’s well worth it. No magazine this week, anyway, fellas. We’ve crammed a lot of things in, in the past, where we’ve had to get a magazine done, too. This is what it’s all about. You’ve got the goosebumps. It’s going to be cold. It’s going to be snow. It’s Michigan-Ohio State. It brings back great memories of some of the colder games that I sat through in this series. 1985 was cold. Harbaugh to John Kolesar, well before you guys were born, was elite. 1993 — Mercury Hayes, one of the most underrated catches in Michigan history. If you haven’t seen it, young people, go and look at it. Fingertip grab, and it was probably 21 degrees out. It snowed, and they had to shovel the field. So, that’s what it’s going to be like. And then, of course, 2021, guys, brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it, the first one that we all celebrated together. You know what? The start of something pretty special — four in a row against Ohio State.
“I remember Bo Schembechler saying back in the day, ‘You know, you lose two in a row at times in this rivalry, but not very often you lose three.’ And they lost a ton in a row for a while there. Now, Michigan has won four in a row. It’s been a weird rivalry, where it’s been one sided since the 10-year war.”
