Michigan QB Jadyn Davis plans to enter NCAA transfer portal

Michigan Wolverines football sophomore quarterback Jadyn Davis plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3. The portal opens Jan. 2 or five days after U-M hires a new head coach to replace the fired Sherrone Moore.

Davis is the first Michigan player to be reportedly planning to enter the portal ever since the news of Moore’s firing with cause came down Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 10).

The 6-foot-1, 207-pounder appeared in four games over two seasons at Michigan. He has three years of eligibility remaining, after redshirting as a freshman in 2024.

Michigan still has one game remaining, but Davis’ status is unclear for it. The Wolverines will take on Texas in the Dec. 31 Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET on ABC.

Davis has spent this season as the backup to freshman Bryce Underwood, but hasn’t earned any meaningful playing time. The Charlotte, N.C., native played against CMU, USC and Maryland, attempting only 2 passes, 1 of which was picked off. on fourth down against the Trojans His 2 passes are just 1 more than wide receivers Donaven McCulley and Semaj Morgan on trick plays.

He appeared in just one game, a 50-6 win over Northwestern, during his redshirt year in 2024, logging one snap, a handoff to Tavierre Dunlap that resulted in a 20-yard touchdown.

A former four-star recruit, Davis was the No. 106 overall player and No. 8 quarterback in the 2024 class, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking. He was the fifth-best quarterback in North Carolina.

In his initial recruitment, Davis chose Michigan over Clemson, Tennessee, North Carolina and Ohio State.
