Notes from Michigan press conferences
• Senior tight end Marlin Klein credited Casula’s tough coaching style for much of his improvement, and while Casula was flattered, he credited Klein for the bulk of that. Casula said he aims to educate and meet players at their level, and that Klein needed hard coaching but that the player is the “driving force” behind growth.
• When asked if Michigan has a ‘TE2’ behind Klein, Casula said that the staff trusts five or six players to see time. That includes Klein, sophomore Hogan Hansen, junior Zack Marshall, junior Deakon Tonielli, graduate Max Bredeson and junior Jalen Hoffman. All six have unique skill sets, making them fits for different duties.
• Tonielli has put together his “best fall camp,” and it’s no longer an “if” for him, it’s “when.”
• Hansen, who was injured in the spring, is “out there every day,” like any player not recovering from a concussion or out for the season. Casula didn’t give much detail other than that but did say he “looks good,” and is “going to play a lot for us this season.” He’s “moving around great.”
• Sophomore tight end Brady Prieskorn is “in the same boat as Hogan” in terms of being out there are practice. Prieskorn suffered an injury at the end of Michigan’s 2024 regular season.

• Michigan’s defensive system is the same it’s been running the last four seasons, but with experience back at linebacker, that position could have more responsibility on its plate.
• Both senior Jimmy Rolder and sophomore Cole Sullivan — the backups behind seniors Jaishawn Barham and Ernest Hausmann — have had “excellent camps.” The staff wants to have four players that they trust to be in on any situation and feel like they have that.
• Junior Troy Bowles, a Georgia transfer who missed the spring with injury, is getting comfortable with the system. He missed installs and walkthroughs in the spring, so it’ll take some time for his reads and processing to be faster on the field.
