Michigan football will likely begin spring practice Feb. 20 ahead of spring break and will hold its spring game on the first day of April at The Big House. It’ll be the first time Michigan plays in front of its fans at Michigan Stadium since the Nov. 19 thrilling win over Illinois. The Maize and Blue are seeking a third-straight Big Ten title and have many returning pieces that will showcase their skills in the scrimmage. It’ll give fans and media a glimpse at how things are coming along heading into the summer cycle.

Michigan football’s defensive line was stellar in 2022, helping lead the Wolverines to the aforementioned Big Ten championship and another College Football Playoff berth. The defense ranked seventh nationally in points per game allowed (16.1), thanks in large part to the men in the middle, who were highlighted via a video from the team’s official account.

“They ate all season long!” the account stated.

Michigan is set to play a reeling Ohio State team that has lost eight of its last nine games, the first of three-straight home clashes, with Nebraska and Indiana also coming to town next week. The margin for error is slim — and Michigan has just one Quad 1 victory, Thursday night’s game — but there are some big opportunities coming up.

“We know that our backs are against the wall and we have to perform at a high level,” Michigan sophomore guard Kobe Bufkin said. “Practice was intense, but it was good. For good reason.

“We’ve been preparing for this all year. Before the season and during the season, we’ve been through ups and downs. I feel like it’s our time to go on this run.”

It’s likely going to take at least seven more victories, between the final nine regular-season games and the Big Ten Tournament, and while the campaign is on life support, the Wolverines’ NCAA Tournament hopes aren’t all the way dead yet.

Michigan will play in front of a sold-out Crisler Center Sunday against the Buckeyes, looking for its first win over its arch rival at home since 2019.

Quote Of The Day

“I’m just excited to keep growing and getting better. Just confidence wise, I’ve been able to prove to myself every single day that I can play at this level. Coach Harbaugh has a ton of confidence in me to be able to go in and get the job done if need be. That confidence has helped a lot. On the field itself, I’m understanding defenses better, how the game works. The detail is at a different level, why everything happens …” — Michigan junior quarterback Davis Warren
