Lindsey is entering his first season with Michigan, after coordinating the offense at North Carolina. He discussed what he saw from the U-M offense before taking the job under head coach Sherrone Moore, who was the offensive coordinator from 2022-23.
“I think overall the last couple years I’ve watched this team, because all the way back to the national championship team, we’ve stolen a lot of ideas. Sherrone has always been creative of unbalanced and heavy sets and those things. Those are things that we messed around with some at North Carolina.
“But for me, just the opportunity to get to be a part of a team that’s DNA is kinda what ours is — built on toughness and being physical. So from my standpoint, I wanted to keep that DNA. I wanted us to come here, and I think when we first started talking about coming here, that’s why he and I hit it off so well.

“Two years ago, we won the whole things, so it’s not like it broken. I think there are some things that we’ll try to improve on. Everybody’s got their own little wrinkle. If all of us in here were calling the offense, we’d all have maybe a different approach, but it’s gonna be in that DNA of what it is. And each year, sometimes, that changes. You build around the strength of your players, and that’s what this spring is gonna be about, kinda identifying those strengths.”
Martindale, meanwhile, discussed how Michigan lost high end talent to the NFL but has the bones to replace them.
“I do think we have more depth in the defense overall, in each room,” Martindale said. “And the quality [of players] that [the assistant coaches] have brought in has really helped us as a defense.”
Michigan begins spring practices Tuesday and will wrap up with an April 19 scrimmage at The Big House. Michigan is entering its second season under Moore.
