Officials from Michigan and USC met in Los Angeles last weekend about the potential Big Ten private investment deal and decided to push back against it. At Thursday’s U-M Board of Regents meeting, regent Jordan Acker was emphatic that Michigan opposes a future deal.

“The Big Ten does not need to be sold to save college sports,” Acker said at the meeting, according to Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger. “It needs to lead. … We can’t cry poverty while spending tens of millions on buyouts. We can’t have college sports, the collegiate experience, dictated by private equity.

“Enough is enough. …. Make no mistake, in five years, we would regret this (capital) deal.”

The Big Ten presidents released a statement that they will continue to discuss a capital investment proposal, despite the pushback from Michigan and USC.

Quote Of The Day

“When you look at what we’re trying to do offensively is create explosive plays each and every week. We’ve done some of that. We’ve done a better job with those, in a lot of respects.

“From a recruit standpoint, building relationships and showing how we’re going to develop those guys really is the important thing. But from our standpoint, offensively, third downs is the big thing for us. We have to improve in those areas.

“That’s all the way around, from protection to catching the ball to making the right throw to knowing their coverage. The other night, we had 10 drives maybe and only nine third downs, and we weren’t good on third downs.”
