Newsstand: Dusty May says he's 'a pretty happy dude' at Michigan
The Michigan Wolverines have their head coach, Dusty May, leading the No. 2 team in the country and the talk of the college basketball world. Naturally, that lends itself to questions about just how high he may want to climb in the profession.
May was asked if he has aspirations of coaching in the pros during his Monday press conference.
“No, I don’t really,” May said. “This is all too big, I’ve said it repeatedly, this is all too big of a dream. I don’t think about where I could be coaching in the future. I want to win on Sunday and get better this week, but I’m not a real goal-driven guy. I haven’t been since I was in my early 20s when I wanted to be a head coach at this date and do all this stuff.
“Then I had a wife and kids and realized, man, I want to enjoy going to work with a great team and a great staff every day. And that’s really the thing that makes me happy. I’m very, very simple. A great staff, team that wants to get better, and curious group that’s driven to be their best. I’m a pretty happy dude either way.”
Michigan will look to move to 11-0 on Sunday against La Salle in Ann Arbor, scheduled for 4 p.m. ET on Peacock.

Michigan quote of the day
“I’ve met individually with all of the players multiple times, and with the parents. Zoomed with the parents multiple times. The message has been listening. I want to listen to them. I want to understand what the kids are feeling and what their parents are feeling. And so, a lot of listening, and there have been a wide range of emotions, as you can imagine, and we kind of are going through those steps. They’re not over yet, and I don’t expect them to be over for a while, quite frankly. But our main message is the mandate that Warde Manuel gave me — as the athletic director, when he asked me to be the interim coach — was to love and take care of the kids. So, that’s what I’m spending all of my time doing, loving kids.”
