Newsstand: Michigan adds another QB recruit to its long-term build

The Michigan Wolverines went into the 2024 season without any promising or ready blue-chip quarterbacks. Fast forward to a season later, and the coaching staff has put in the work to overhaul the position group and stablize it for the future.
Head coach Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines landed 2027 signal-caller Peter Bourque to the mix on Monday morning, giving them another top-100 talent at the position to shape the room for years to come.
According to the Rivals Industry Ranking, Bourque is a four-star prospect and the No. 86 player in the class. He ranks as the No. 7 passer in the cycle. His addition comes stacked on top of 2026 commit Brady Smigiel, the No. 140 industry-ranked player and 9th-ranked quarterback in his class, who committed to U-M back in April. He was also named a preseason Rivals All-American this week.
The face of Michigan’s quarterback renaissance comes in true freshman Bryce Underwood, 2025’s No. 1 overall recruit and a five-star talent expected to start this season in Ann Arbor. It took a major, historic NIL push and selling an opportunity to flip him from LSU, but his presence has given the team a weapon at quarterback for the next 3-4 seasons.

Also in the room is sophomore Jadyn Davis, a four-star prospect in 2024 and No. 106 player in the Rivals Industry Ranking. He is competing for the backup quarterback job in Michigan’s ongoing fall camp.

Michigan quote of the day
“I love Jaden Mangham. There’s a story within the story for him,” Morgan said. “You leave your rival, you get here and you get hurt and you don’t play and you redshirt. People are like, ‘What happened?’ He had an injury. That’s part of life. He had some adversity, and I think it made him grow. He’s been a great surprise. I’m a big fan of him. He’s definitely going to be helping us week one, first quarter, playing and he’s gonna be a real guy for us.”
