Newsstand: Michigan basketball players, coaches appear at U-M alumni golf outing

The Michigan Wolverines men’s basketball team was well-represented on Monday afternoon at the U-M Club of Greater Flint’s golf outing at Atlas Valley Golf Club in Flint. Players Yaxel Lendeborg and Nimari Burnett and assistant coaches Mike Boynton Jr. and Kyle Church, who also serves as the program’s GM, were there to speak and meet with alumni.
The players arrived at the event late in the afternoon and began an autograph session with fans before making their way over to dinner, where they spoke on a panel that was moderated by former Michigan PR man Bruce Madej.
“ Yeah, I definitely feel a little bit more of a buzz,” Burnett told The Wolverine of the title buzz this offseason. “Like last year we were not expected to do what we did, and so this year we have expectations. But at the same time, it doesn’t mean anything because we’re all committed to getting better every single day.
“I think because of that, in the group we have, we’re very eager to use that on the floor. We still have months to go before that happens. But just the talent and especially seeing all the bigs come in like Morez [Johnson], [Aday Mara] and the rest of the guys, we’re excited to get together and compete.”

Michigan quote of the day
”The fixed part has everything to do with the quarterback position. They could have run it back with the same group of receivers they had a year ago, but with these quarterbacks that they now have on the roster, and it would look completely different. I wrote right under quoting Lindy’s there that it’s gonna feel like a breath of fresh air, even if it’s not a dynamic passing attack, even if it’s not an above-average power-four passing attack. Even if it’s just average, which I think they have much more upside than that, but I’m just trying to give it a baseline here.
“As we look at it, I think it’s gonna look so much better. And then you add that you did bring in some guys who might be able to take it to another level from what we saw a year ago from a pass-catching standpoint. You lost Colston Loveland, so that hurts. But wide receiver-wise, I don’t think you can get much worse. Tyler Morris was your leading receiver and he left, but he wasn’t very productive. And there were times last year where guys were somewhat open, but the quarterbacks couldn’t find them.”
