Newsstand: Michigan football gives first look at spring practices

The Michigan Wolverines have kicked off the first set of spring practices under head coach Sherrone Moore and tweeted a video with a handful of highlights from Al Glick Fieldhouse at Schembechler Hall.
The video featured quick glimpses at senior cornerback Ja’Den McBurrows, junior defensive tackle Mason Graham and a litany of players warming up inside the indoor practice facility. It also gave Michigan fans their first look at tight ends coach Steve Casula coaching his group and Max Bredeson hitting a blocking pad.
Other highlights included senior running back Donovan Edwards taking handoffs from junior quarterback Alex Orji and the first official day on the job for running backs coach/run game coordinator Tony Alford after being hired last week from the rival Ohio State Buckeyes.
New offensive line coach Grant Newsome and linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary were also caught on film working with their new position groups, in addition to quick shots of junior safety Zeke Berry, junior tight end Colston Loveland and senior defensive back Makari Paige.
Junior quarterback Jayden Denegal was on video with a throwing rep with junior wide receiver Tyler Morris appearing after, running a route against sophomore cornerback DJ Waller. The clip ended with a catch from sophomore wide receiver Fredrick Moore.

Overall, not a whole lot to glean from the video out of Ann Arbor. But to see the Michigan squad back practicing in defense of its national title warms the cockles of the heart.

Michigan quote of the day
“So what does your candidate pool look like? It’s mostly made of a lot of mid-major guys and you can certainly hire a good coach from those ranks. That’s a pretty common jump right now in college basketball, not just right now, but historically in college basketball. But at the same time, it is somewhat of a risk and you don’t want to be back in this situation three years from now because you hired somebody who didn’t get it done in their first opportunity as a high-major coach.”
