Newsstand: Michigan softball's season comes to an end

The Michigan Wolverines softball season came to a close on Saturday after a pair of losses on the second day of the NCAA Regional. U-M dropped a 16-4 decision to the third-seed and host team Texas before being eliminated by UCF in a 10-8 heartbreaker later in the day.
Michigan’s second game of the day featured five lead changes, with the Wolverines up after four. UCF would take the lead and not surrender it in the fifth inning. The Texas Longhorns scored 13 of their 16 runs on home runs, including three coming in the fourth in a 9-run frame.
Michigan’s season wrapped up with a 39-21 record in 60 games played, including an incredible run last season in the Big Ten Conference Tournament to earn its 31st bid to the NCAAs in program history.
U-M grabbed its second straight Big Ten Tournament championship with a 2-0 win over No. 9 UCLA on May 10 in West Lafayette, closing out an incredible week that culminated with the 12th BTT win in program history.
The victory came a few days after an upset win over No. 4 Oregon in the quarterfinals, giving them a pair of top-10 victories en route to the Big Ten’s automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. It was the second-straight Big Ten tourney title for U-M and head coach Bonnie Tholl, who just wrapped her third season on the job.

Michigan quote of the day
“I feel like we have a small connection. Because I’m from Michigan. I took the job in ’08 at Michigan and it was kind of late in the signing period. Michigan never offered me a scholarship, didn’t even recruit me. When you took the job, Michigan started coming to the school… you started recruiting me a week before signing day. You believed in me even when Michigan didn’t all those years.”
