The Big Ten has its new commissioner, after Kevin Warren made the leap to the NFL’s Chicago Bears. Tony Petitti, a longtime sports television executive, has been tapped for the job. Michigan’s Twitter account gave him a warm welcome after the announcement.

Some background on Petitti from the Big Ten Conference press release: “A 14-time National Sports Emmy Award winner, Petitti has held senior executive roles at CBS Sports and ABC Sports overseeing rights acquisition deals for a variety of sports leagues and collegiate and professional sports events, including the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, regular season men’s basketball, college football, NFL, PGA Tour, the Masters, U.S. Open Tennis Championships, and the Little League World Series, as well as leading in the creation of the Bowl Championship Series to determine college football’s national champion.”

Michigan center Hunter Dickinson is in the transfer portal and beginning to take visits. He’ll see Georgetown and Maryland this weekend — two hometown teams for the Alexandria, Virginia, native. Kansas remains “heavy in pursuit,” and he’s talked with Syracuse, Kentucky and others. Michigan, though, remains an option.

Michigan freshman forward Adam Fantilli — the Hobey Baker Award winner for the nation’s top player — was named the national Rookie of the Month. Fantilli is heavily favored to be the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s NHL Draft, but he’s considering returning to Ann Arbor for another season.

“Everything is completely up in the air right now,” Fantilli told NHL.com on Wednesday. “I don’t know what team is picking where and I don’t know where I’m going to get picked, so it’s completely up in the air.”

Quote Of The Day

“Whenever we see each other, J.J. always gives me a hug. It was definitely good to see him again. I’ve gotten to see him play at Michigan after seeing him play at Nazareth (Academy) and at IMG (Academy). He’s also a very good person. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him not smile. He looks like he’s always having fun and that’s one thing I look up to. Have fun because football isn’t forever.”
