Offseason Movement: Michigan loses Assistant Director of Recruiting

Michigan will soon be looking to fill a void in the recruiting department.
According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, Michigan Assistant Director of Recruiting Jack Dunaway is set to become a scouting assistant with the Seattle Seahawks. Dunaway will work under current Seahawks head coach and former Michigan defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald.
Dunaway joined Michigan’s staff in March of 2024 as the Wolverines made a concerted effort to revamp and modernize their recruiting department.
Dunaway played linebacker for Michigan from 2016-2018 and was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. Dunaway was the MLive Detroit Player of the Year on Defense as a senior and joined the Wolverines as a preferred walk-on.
Following his playing days, Dunaway spent two years with the program as a coaching intern and graduate assistant before taking over as an account executive for FCB Chicago and eventually landing back at U-M.
Dunaway was one of two Assistant Directors of Recruiting working under Director of Recruiting Sam Popper — the other is John Collins, who joined U-M after spending two years as a personnel and recruiting analyst at Georgia.
Michigan has lost five recruiting staffers this offseason — Jack Turner is now a college scout for the Tennessee Titans, Coleman Walker is now the Director of Player Personnel for Washington State, Cam Hughes is now the Assistant Director of Player Personnel at Jacksonville State, Jacob Weber is now a high school coach in Indiana and Preston Sagan is now part of the scouting service Tracking Football.
Michigan also lost its Associate Director of On-Campus Recruiting, Joshua Bailey, who left to take over as Director of Recruiting for Georgia State.
Michigan has made plenty of recent changes to its recruiting department over the last two years. The Wolverines reassigned Albert Karschnia and promoted Popper to Director of Recruiting. Every on-field assistant coach was assigned a recruiting staffer to help with position recruiting.
