Michigan has lost a member of its expanded recruiting department.

Anthony Johnson announced on social media that he would be leaving his position as a recruiting analyst at Michigan to take over as a recruiting coordinator at Nebraska.

Johnson just joined the U-M program in late May after six months at Pitt, where he worked as a personnel and operations assistant. He lasted less than two months in Ann Arbor.

Johnson spent his brief time at Michigan assisting defensive line coach Lou Esposito with position recruiting.

A former three-star recruit, Johnson played at Cleveland (Ohio) Heights and signed with Bowling Green as part of its 2019 recruiting class. Johnson transferred to Youngstown State and spent four seasons there, recording 45 tackles, nine tackles for loss, five sacks and one fumble recovery in 36 games.

Johnson transferred to Pitt last year but suffered a career-ending injury in a practice following the first game of the season.

Michigan has made plenty of recent changes to its recruiting department over the last two years. The Wolverines reassigned Albert Karschnia and promoted Popper to Director of Recruiting. Every on-field assistant coach was assigned a recruiting staffer to help with position recruiting.

Sherrone Moore has shown a commitment to modernizing and expanding his staff during his tenure as head coach. That will not change moving forward.

Michigan entered the day with the No. 9 ranked 2026 recruiting class nationally, per the On3 Industry team recruiting rankings. Michigan is also ranked No. 4 in the Big Ten. USC currently has the top class in the conference.
