The Michigan Wolverines are 5-2 and now into a rivalry week game against the Michigan State Spartans after saving its season in a 24-7 win over Washington on Saturday in Ann Arbor.

TheWolverine.com’s Anthony Broome, Chris Balas and Clayton Sayfie discuss the win and what went right in this weekend’s victory.

“Everything that went right against Washington kind of went wrong against USC,” Sayfie said on the show. I wouldn’t say Michigan completely shut down Washington’s screen game — there were a few decent gains early, including one to Jonah Coleman — but they limited those plays pretty well overall. They really contained the run game and shut down Demond Williams’ legs outside of one or two scrambles. You think of one third down early in the game, but other than that, they held up fine.

“Offensively, they finished more of their drives with points. I still want to see more of those end in touchdowns — there were still a few drives that stalled out for field goals or turnovers on downs — and Sherrone Moore has really emphasized that since the game ended. But overall, the offensive performance was really clean.

“You have to give credit to the coordinators. I came away thinking about Chip Lindsey and Wink Martindale and how both responded after the USC game. Lindsey probably called his best game, and Bryce Underwood had his best outing at quarterback for Michigan — 21-of-27 with three or four drops, around 230 yards, two touchdowns, and good decision-making outside of one play where he ran out of bounds instead of throwing it away.”
