Jyaire Hill stepped up when his team needed him the most.

Despite battling a calf injury for most of the game, the rising 2023 prospect scored a second half rushing touchdown and recorded several tackles en route to leading Kankakee (Ill.) High to a thrilling 44-38 win over Marion (Ill.) High in the Illinois state quarterfinals.

“The goal is for the team to stay humble,” Hill said. “If everybody does their job, 1-11, we’re going to be good. Next week, we’re going to stay healthy. We’re going to stay focused on the weight room and practice. Little things matter the most.”

Hill is starting to garner plenty of interest on the recruiting trail, notching recent offers from Cincinnati, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Wisconsin and others.

While Hill is not yet ranked, the 6-foot-2, 180-pounder has the skillset to rise into the On300 and is also a star on the track, placing fifth at Junior Olympics in the 200m with a 22.63 (the time was good enough to place him just ahead of Makari Vickers, the No.88 overall recruit the 2023 class).

Right now, Hill is focused on winning a state title but hopes to make a few visits soon.

“I’m still trying to take everything in,” Hill said. “I’m going through it a little bit, but I’m still trying to look more into everything. I want to get out to some visits, but my schedule is really tight with playoffs.”

Michigan has been pushing to get Hill on campus since offering last month. And he expects that to happen sooner rather than later.

“I’m definitely trying to visit,” Hill said. “I want to get there for a game, but we’re still playing. If I can’t, then I hope I can get to a basketball game and look at all the facilities. I’m really excited to see everything out there.”

For now, Hill is continuing to build relationships with Michigan safeties coach Ron Bellamy and Director of Player Personnel Courtney Morgan.

“We’re just keeping our communication up,” Hill said. “I’m still talking to Coach (Morgan and Coach Bellamy. They are really cool dudes. Coach Bellamy is like my coaches at Kankakee. We have a good connection.”

Hill added that he’s been impressed with the way Michigan has played this season.

“They are doing their thing like we are doing our thing,” Hill said. “That’s it. That’s what you like to see.”
