Michigan defensive line coach Lou Esposito sat in Sherrone Moore’s office Wednesday with tears in his eyes. His son, class of 2027 offensive tackle Louis Esposito, just received a scholarship offer from the Wolverines and could see how much this meant to his father.

Louis’ recruitment heated up quickly this fall. After a growth spurt over the past year where he sprouted up from 6-2 to 6-5 and added 40 pounds to bulk up to 260, Louisville, Purdue and Pittsburgh all offered.

Michigan joined his recruitment this week, and Louis said it was an emotional scene in the office with his father, Moore and offensive line coach Grant Newsome. This offer means “the world” to the Saline (Mich.) High standout.

“I’ve always been taught people make the place, and I think Michigan has one of the best cultures, one of the best atmospheres in all of college football,” Louis said. “I’ve been a Michigan fan since I was growing up. It’s just a dream come true to be able to say I have a Michigan offer.”

He earned the offer at camp this week. Louis said he had one of the best combine and one-on-one performances of his life. When he walked into Moore’s office later that day, the head coach complimented him and caught the lineman off-guard with the good news.

“It was a total surprise to me,” Louis said. “I just showed up hoping for the best. I know I did good, so I feel like I earned it.”

Louis refined his footwork and technique this offseason while also improving his strength and power while going through a significant growth spurt. That helped him pile up double-digit Division-I offers over the past few months.

His father joined the Wolverine staff a little over a year ago. Louis’ Michigan fandom stretches back to before he had the family connection to the program. Now that he officially sits on U-M’s recruiting board, he hopes to get to know the school even better moving forward.

“I want to be around practice a little bit more, talk to some of the players, see how they feel about the program and just go from there,” Louis said.

Before camping at Michigan, he made stops at Michigan State, Purdue and Vanderbilt amongst others this year. Louis is going to keep an open mind when bonding with other programs, but he did not shy away from how huge this offer is for him.

“I don’t know if I’m going to go to any more summer camps, but I like the process of recruiting,” Louis said. “I’m going to still visit other places. I’m not going to completely shut down my recruitment, but I definitely have one of the schools that I’ve been looking at for a long time.”
