Transfer portal punter Hunter Robertson commits to Michigan football

The Michigan Wolverines have received a commitment from transfer portal punter Hunter Robertson, he announced early Sunday morning. Robertson spent the last two seasons with the Clarion Golden Eagles in Pennsylvania, an NCAA Division II program, and has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Robertson, who stands at 6-5, 180 pounds, is a Huntington Woods, Michigan native and played his high school football at Berkley, earning all-conference honors as a junior and an academic All-State nod.
During the 2023 season, he served as the team’s kickoff specialist and took over punting duties late in the year. He had eight kickoffs for touchbacks that year, along with 16 punts that averaged 34.6 yards per kick. He also put five punts inside the 20-yard line.
In 2024, he had 51 punts for 2,201 yards with a long of 70 yards, averaging 43.2 yards per kick, with 15 punts of 50-plus yards and 17 punts downed inside the 20-yard line. Four of his punts were touchbacks, and another 8 were fair caught.
He’s taken 89 kickoff attempts in 22 games played, amassing 5.283 yards (59.4 average) with 23 touchbacks and 3 kicks out of bounds. Robertson has also made 4-of-7 career field goal attempts, one of which was blocked last season.

Robertson adds some competition in the special teams room at Michigan, where Hudson Hollenbeck has been mentioned most of the offseason as the leader for the job. Head coach Sherrone Moore addressed the punting situation on Thursday at Big Ten Football Media Days.
“Yeah, I mean I’m excited, I think Hudson right now is in pole position to take that because of what he did in the lead up,” Moore said during his breakout session. “But we’ve got a couple of guys that we brought in, but just ready to see. Fall camp will tell a lot about who’s going to take the spot and what it’s going to look like, but just ready to see what happens in fall camp.”
Michigan is replacing Tommy Doman, who transferred to Florida during the offseason. It had previously received a reported commitment from Missouri’s Luke Bauer in the transfer portal this spring, but there are no mentions of Michigan in his social media profiles, nor does he appear in the university directory.
