Twitter reacts to blown call in Michigan-Louisville regional final
Officiating throughout the 2022 NCAA Baseball Championship has been far from exemplary. Unfortunately for Michigan, this continued unreliability was never more evident than in the Louisville Regional final.
No. 12 Louisville trailed the Wolverines 9-7 with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning and momentum dwindling. Michigan then walked Cardinals catcher Dalton Rushing before allowing designated hitter Jack Payton to send a double off the left field wall… yet the tag at second base sure seemed to make it in time.
Payton’s fingers clearly bend upwards due to contact with the glove prior to reaching the bag safely. Nonetheless, both the umpire and replay official somehow still ruled in favor of host Louisville.
What should have been an end to the inning instead led to Michigan giving up four runs through the next two batters and falling behind to the closing margin, 11-9. Not to mention, this also transpired after U-M valiantly overcame a five-run deficit earlier in the contest.
Robbery of the year??
