Deck Recruitment

Deck notched a Michigan offer in May of last year and has become of of the Wolverines’ biggest priorities in the secondary this cycle.

Deck made his first visit to Michigan this spring and is now set to be back in Ann Arbor for an official visit this weekend.

The On300 prospect recently named Michigan in his final group along with Baylor, Colorado and Penn State.

Here is what Holland had to say about his recruitment.

“Michigan needs a tall, long safety this cycle, and Deck definitely fits the description,” Holland said. “I think he can be a better version of Makari Paige while playing that role in Michigan’s defensive scheme. Baylor is doing everything it can to keep Deck close to home. But Deck is very open to leaving his home region and is high on both Michigan and Penn State. Michigan will look to impress him on his official visit this weekend. This will be his second time on campus as he also made a visit in the spring.”

Deck is ranked as the No. 26 safety and No. 296 overall prospect nationally, per On3. He is also ranked as the No. 39 overall recruit in the state of Texas this cycle.

Oklahoma has the lead for Deck on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. However, the Sooners are no longer in the picture. Baylor is in second place with a 5.4 percent chance of landing him.

Michigan has seven commits in its 2026 recruiting class — Top 100 Billings (Mont.) West tight end Matt Ludwig, Top 100 Newberry Park (Calif.) High quarterback Brady Smigiel, On300 Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin cornerback Brody Jennings, three-star Cartersville (Ga.) Cass offensive lineman Bear McWhorter, three-star Washington (D.C.) St. John’s EDGE Tariq Boney, three-star Denver (Colo.) Mullen tight end Mason Bonner and three-star Dallas (Texas) Parish Episcopal wide receiver Jaylen Pile.

Michigan entered the day with the No. 19 ranked 2026 recruiting class nationally, per the On3 Industry team recruiting rankings. Michigan is also ranked No. 5 in the Big Ten. USC currently has the top class in the conference.

Michigan also has the No. 10 ranked transfer portal class this cycle, per the On3 transfer portal index.
