Mississippi State Head Coach Chris Jans Reacts To Ncaa Tournament Invitation

Last month 2024 Mississippi State signee and On3 three-star point guard Dellquan Warren concluded his prep career at Our Savior Lutheran (N.Y.) School. With his prep career in his past now, Warren will spend the next few months preparing for his arrival to the SEC.

In his senior season, Warren averaged 14.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 3.1 steals. But beyond the stats, Warren was optimistic about the strides he made at the point guard position.

“I feel like I learned how to run the team this year from a point guard standpoint,” Warren recalled. “And I was a leader. That played a big role in my season. I got better at being a leader and helping my teammates.

“Now I want to work on my decision making. My decision making and to keep shooting the ball better.”

Warren is rated as the nation’s No. 18 point guard and the state’s No. 5 prospect by On3 composite rankings. He officially signed with Mississippi State back in November and he has enjoyed watching his future teammates on the court this season.

“It’s been great watching them,” Warren noted. “I try to see myself on the court with them and seeing how I can fit in. Every game I watch I try to see where I will fit. What sticks out the most is how everybody gets down on defense. And that is where I can impact the game a lot, on the defensive side of the ball.”

Of course, being able to defend is a major part of head coach Chris Jans’ system at Mississippi State. Warren has observed State’s backcourt and how they defend, and is eager to aid those defensive efforts in the future.

“I like how the guards – Shak (Moore), Rams (Dashawn Davis and Josh (Hubbard) – like to get down and play defense,” added Warren. “They use their hands well on defense and they emphasize defense with Coach Jans. I feel that is a good thing for the team.”

Next season, Warren is eager to join State’s backcourt depth chart and is excited about playing with Hubbard at the next level.

“I feel like that is going to be great,” said the 6-foot-1 and 180-pound Warren of Hubbard. “It is going to be great playing with him and getting him the ball in his spots. But I do anything I can to impact any way I can in my first year.”

Warren plans to make the move to Starkville in late May when he will enroll and get ready for offseason workouts with his new Bulldog teammates. Naturally, Warren wants to get a feel for his surroundings first and then he wants to do what it takes to have a successful debut season at Mississippi State.

“The coaches just tell me to be ready when I come in there in May,” mentioned Warren. “I want to get there first to see how it is. I want to get a feel for the program before I set any expectations for myself. I just want to have a good freshman year any way I can.”
