3 takeaways from NC State coach Dave Doeren’s National Signing Day press conference

National Signing Day used to be filled with surprises. That was the beauty of the pinnacle event in college football recruiting, but that has decreased as time has gone on with social media. But NC State still managed to pull off an unexpected flip Wednesday afternoon. Just before Wolfpack coach Dave Doeren took the podium, he and his staff completed a flip of Loganville (Ga.) Grayson three-star EDGE Lawrence Brown Jr. away from Bill Belichick and UNC. “There were some surprises in here,” Doeren said with a smirk. “One of them was just announced with Lawrence Brown. He’s a player that we really liked from Grayson that made a decision to flip to us from our rival school. Always great to have one of those here at the end.” Brown, who was the fourth flip from UNC to NC State in the last eight cycles, was the lone true surprise of signing day’s fireworks, which featured 26 players that inked their names before Doeren took the microphone just before 3 p.m.. Here are three takeaways from Doeren’s 30-minute media availability after the 2026 class began officially joining the Wolfpack program.
