
<p>High school football season is officially underway, and most of <a href="https://www.on3.com/teams/nc-state-wolfpack/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NC State</a>’s 12 class of 2023 commits took the field over the weekend for the first game of their senior seasons. <em>The Wolfpacker </em>put together recaps of the double-digit performances. </p>



<h2 id="h-on3-consensus-three-star-wide-receiver-kevin-concepcion"><strong>On3 Consensus three-star wide receiver Kevin Concepcion</strong></h2>

<p><strong>Last game: </strong><a href="https://www.on3.com/db/kevin-concepcion-146422/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kevin Concepcion</a> announced his commitment to NC State Saturday, and he was in the end zone just a few minutes later. On the second play of the game, the receiver caught a 70-yard touchdown. According to <a href="https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/high-school/article263823978.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Charlotte Observer</a>, he finished the game with 104 receiving yards on five receptions. Chambers won the matchup with Cardinal Gibbons 28-14.</p>

<p><strong>Last game:</strong> NC State safety-commit <a href="https://www.on3.com/db/daemon-fagan-27847/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Daemon Fagan</a> made seven tackles and defended two passes in a 38-20 win for American Heritage over Lowndes. The safety and the rest of the defense shut out their opponent in the first half. </p>

<p><strong>Last game:</strong> In a blowout 42-0 win over Croatan, <a href="https://www.on3.com/db/javonte-vereen-147127/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Javonte Vereen</a> continued to showcase his elite big-play ability, catching three passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns. The NC State-commit also carried the ball once, scoring another touchdown on a 13-yard run. </p>

<p><strong>Last game:</strong> In a tough 10-6 defeat, <a href="https://www.on3.com/db/zack-myers-147197/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Zack Myers</a> led his team in tackles with nine, including three for loss. He also caught one pass for 53 yards— Christ School’s most explosive play of the day. </p>

<p><strong>Last game:</strong> <a href="https://www.on3.com/db/darion-rivers-150422/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Darion Rivers</a> and West Charlotte lost to Butler 27-0. Rivers committed to NC State in March.</p>

<p><strong>Last game:</strong> In a 49-39 shootout with , Wilkes Central lost its season opener. <a href="https://www.on3.com/db/kamen-smith-154335/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kamen Smith</a> missed the game due to injury. </p>

<h2 id="h-on3-consensus-three-star-defensive-lineman-isaiah-shirley">On3 Consensus three-star defensive lineman Isaiah Shirley</h2>

<p><strong>Last game:</strong> <a href="https://www.on3.com/db/isaiah-shirley-49751/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Isaiah Shirley</a> and the Watauga defense shut out T.C. Roberson in the first half on their way to a 42-13 win. According to the <a href="https://www.wataugademocrat.com/blowingrocket/news/watauga-wins-grid-opener-42-13-at-ashevilles-t-c-roberson/article_adfc24b6-2219-11ed-b555-633977ce8d99.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Watauga Democrat</a>, the Pioneers held their opponent to 141 of total offense. Shirley committed to NC State just a few days after his official visit earlier this summer.</p>

<p><strong>Last game:</strong> <a href="https://www.on3.com/db/lex-thomas-146254/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lex Thomas</a> rushed for two touchdowns against Holly Springs, according to <a href="https://www.highschoolot.com/lex-thomas-carries-no-8-heritage-past-no-21-holly-springs/20425121/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">High School OT</a>, to help elevate Heritage to a 20-14 win.</p>

<p><strong>Last game:</strong> NC State nickel-commit <a href="https://www.on3.com/db/tamarcus-cooley-149766/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tamarcus Cooley</a> and Rolesville made one of the best plays of the weekend when he intercepted a pass and returned it more than 70 yards for a touchdown. Rolesville defeated Pinecrest 52-28.</p>
