NC State’s special teams unit has always been one of the more consistent groups on the roster since throughout Dave Doeren’s more than a decade-long tenure in Raleigh.  The Wolfpack has churned out a pair of NFL punters in AJ Cole, who became the richest at his position this offseason, and Trenton Gill, while kicker Christopher Dunn won the 2022 Lou Groza Award and long snapper Joe Shimko claimed the 2023 Patrick Mannelly Award.  Although the Pack expects elite play from its specialists, it doesn’t try to force that pressure on them. Instead, it trusts them to do their jobs at elite levels, relying on past experience and the tutelage from special teams coordinator Todd Goebbel. That’s no different this season as the Wolfpack returns several starters, looking for them to take a step forward from last fall.
