While the rest of the NC State women’s basketball team spent the last few weeks working out together inside Reynolds Coliseum, Wolfpack sophomore forward Tilda Trygger was gaining valuable experience in international play.

Trygger, who emerged as one of the Pack’s rising stars at center last season, made the Swedish Senior National Team this offseason. She was then sent to play with her nation’s U20 squad in the Women’s EuroBasket tournament, where Trygger quickly asserted herself as one of the best players in the field.

The 6-foot-6 post player helped pace Sweden to a fourth-place finish in the tournament, nearly securing her country’s first-ever medal at the event. Trygger was a key piece of Sweden’s run through the championship as she averaged 15.3 points with 10.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in seven games against Europe’s top young players.

It didn’t take long for Trygger to establish herself in the international tournament as she scored 18 points on 5-of-13 shooting in just 21 minutes during Sweden’s 92-76 win over Iceland to open the group stage round. And after a rocky 5-point performance on 2-of-6 shooting against Latvia, Trygger seemed to hit her stride.

The center posted a 16-point, 15-rebound double-double in a 75-67 loss to Turkey to close out the group stage. She then scored 31 points with nine rebounds to beat Poland 92-86 in the Round of 16 before closing the tournament with three-straight double-doubles: 14 points and 12 rebounds to beat Belgium in the quarterfinals; 13 points and 19 rebounds in a semifinal loss to Lithuania; and 10 points and 14 rebounds in a third-place game loss to Italy.

While she put together one of the more all-around performances throughout the tournament, Trygger’s highlight of the week in Portugal came in the quarterfinal win over Belgium. She scored the go-ahead bucket with 10 seconds left before swatting the game-sealing block on the other end to keep Sweden’s run going.

Trygger finished the tournament second in made 3-pointers per game (1.7) and in double doubles (4), third in rebounds per game (10.7), fourth in blocks per game (1.6.) and ninth in points per game (16.8) among all players in the field.

Trygger was able to play well in Sweden’s five out offense, which resembled a lot of what NC State coach Wes Moore likes to play in Raleigh. It makes sense why Trygger was able to find success with Sweden, and she looked more confident in her rebounding than she did last season with the Wolfpack.

If Trygger, who averaged 6.7 points and 4.9 rebounds in her expanding role a year ago, can build off her standout international performance at the U20 EuroBasket tournament, NC State could have one of the more-improved players in all of college basketball anchoring its center spot in the 2025-26 campaign.
