How NC State WR Terrell Anderson crafted a career-best showing in loss at Duke

Terrell Anderson spent his freshman year eager to make a play. He was always ready when his number was called, but the NC State wide receiver was buried in a deep position group. That led to minimal opportunities, though when they came, Anderson took full advantage. The former four-star recruit out of Greensboro (N.C.) Grimsley High flashed, at times, including a 40-yard touchdown reception in mop-up duty with the backups during the Wolfpack’s 59-35 loss at Clemson last season. That score, his first of his career, appeared to build confidence within Anderson a year ago. “It felt good scoring, even though it was late in the game,” Anderson said last September. “Coach [Dave] Doeren preaches playing hard for all four quarters, the score doesn’t dictate the game. I just went out there to show what I could do.” Almost a year to the date, Anderson has seemed to carry that momentum into his sophomore campaign. The wide receiver rose up the depth chart in fall camp, emerging as one of the Wolfpack’s top outside receivers. He caught three passes in each of NC State’s first three games (17, 44 and 46 yards, respectively), but a breakout performance was inevitable to come. And, well, it arrived in NC State’s 45-33 shootout loss at Duke on Saturday afternoon at Wallace Wade Stadium. Anderson, who caught just 14 passes for 158 yards and one score in his first season of college football, hauled in six receptions for 166 yards and two touchdowns in his career-best showing.
