After losing standout outfielder Josh Hogue to the MLB Draft, NC State baseball needed to add depth to the unit this offseason. The Wolfpack did just that with a commitment from Indiana transfer Andrew Wiggins, TheWolfpacker.com has been told.

Wiggins, a career .271 hitter through his first two seasons of college baseball, has a pair of years of eligibility remaining. South Carolina, LSU and Virginia Tech were other programs in the mix for Wiggins’ services in the transfer portal.

The Indianapolis native hit .256 with seven doubles, four home runs and 24 RBI as he played in 43 games, including 37 starts (34 right field, three designated hitter), for the Hoosiers this past season. He also logged a .454 on-base percentage with 38 walks to just 36 strikeouts, while also being hit by a pitch 11 times.

This summer, meanwhile, Wiggins hit .255 with two doubles, one home run and eight RBI in 19 games with the Cotuit Kettleers in the Cape Cod League. He logged 16 walks to 20 strikeouts, while adding two stolen bases on three attempts and six runs scored.

As a freshman, Wiggins hit .309 with four doubles, three home runs and 15 RBI across 36 appearances, including 14 starts. He posted a .545 slugging percentage with a .466 on-base percentage with 14 walks to 14 strikeouts during his collegiate debut campaign.

Before he arrived to the college ranks, Wiggins was a three-time all-state selection at Heritage Christian, including a selection to the 2022 Perfect Game All-American Classic. He was also the No. 37 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, including the No. 2 overall recruit in Indiana after he logged a .446 batting average with 17 home runs, 64 RBI and 60 walks in three high school seasons.

Wiggins, a prep All-American, is expected to compete for an outfield spot next spring as Hogue, a 15th-round selection, signed with the Miami Marlins on Tuesday evening. Others battling for that spot include junior college transfer Devin Mitchell and incoming freshman Everett Johnson.

Wiggins is the Wolfpack’s sixth transfer portal addition of the offseason, joining right-handed pitchers Collins Black (Duke) and Ryder Garino (South Carolina), infielders Mikey Ryan (LSU) and Wyatt Peifer (JMU), and outfielder/designated hitter Dalton Bargo (Tennessee).
