Instant observations: NC State races past NC Central in Will Wade's debut

Will Wade emerged from the home tunnel just moments before tipoff. Dressed in a black NC State quarter zip with matching pants and white Adidas sneakers, it didn’t take long for the 42-year-old to get the capacity crowd on its feet. Just the sight of the veteran coach sent those clad in Wolfpack apparel wild before Wade waved his arms around to bring the building to a near deafening volume before the ball was even tipped. While the hungry crowd was hyped before the season opener, it kept that same energy for all 40 minutes as NC State raced to a 114-64 win over NC Central on Monday night at the Lenovo Center. The Wolfpack controlled the game from start to finish as it never trailed en route to the blowout victory. NC State was efficient from the field, too, shooting 57.8 percent from the floor with a 19-of-40 mark from 3-point distance and 27 total assists in Wade’s debut, which featured his fiery energy on the bench for much of the night. Senior forward Darrion Williams led the way with 19 points and eight assists, while sophomore guard Paul McNeil Jr. added 16 with four made 3-pointers and senior point guard Tre Holloman chipped in with 15. Senior center Ven-Allen Lubin posted 10 points and he led the way on the glass with six rebounds. Here are TheWolfpacker.com’s observations from NC State’s first win under Wade.
