Is a bowl game possible? Predicting NC State’s record with 5 games left in regular season

NC State is set to emerge from its first of two open dates after it raced through the first seven weeks of the season without a break. The Wolfpack, which tends to play better off a weekend off under coach Dave Doeren, is set to put that to the test again this fall. The Pack (4-3, 1-2 ACC) has lost its previous three FBS games after it began the season 3-0 against such competition, including a 35-31 win over current-No. 18 Virginia in Week 2. NC State is set to travel to Pitt before hosting Georgia Tech ahead of its second open date that leads into a three-game dash to close the regular season. Although the Pack has the 41st-toughest schedule remaining in all of college football, ESPN’s Football Power Index gives the team a 67.7 percent chance to reach six wins and make its 11th bowl appearance in the last 12 seasons. While some around the fanbase are unhappy with where the Wolfpack currently stands, including two head-scratching losses to Duke and Virginia Tech earlier in league play, NC State Athletic Director Boo Corrigan appeared optimistic about the program last week. “Let’s remind ourselves we’re 4-3, we’re not 0-7 at this point in time,” Corrigan said on the Wolfpack Radio Network this past Wednesday. “The bye week is hitting at a good time for us.” For NC State’s sake, the university’s sixth-year athletic director could be right. Let’s take a look at the Wolfpack’s remaining schedule, and TheWolfpacker.com’s predictions of what may happen in each of the final five regular season games.
