NC State adds commitment from JMU transfer INF Wyatt Peifer

NC State baseball continues to navigate the transfer portal to reload for the 2025 season as James Madison transfer infielder Wyatt Peifer committed to the Wolfpack on Wednesday afternoon.
Peifer, who won the 2024 Gold Glove Award at third base, projects to play on the hot corner for the Wolfpack — a position that NC State needed to fill through the portal after it lost its top three options this offseason. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
The Greentown, Pa., native hit .241 with 10 doubles, six home runs and 32 RBI in 55 starts this past spring. He owns a career average of .268 with 33 doubles, three triples, 11 home runs, 87 RBI, 118 strikeouts and 54 walks in three seasons of college baseball. Piefer is 20-for-25 on stolen base attempts in his career.
When Peifer suits up for the Wolfpack, it won’t be his first time playing at Doak Field. JMU played in the 2024 Raleigh Regional, making it to the final against NC State. That weekend, Peifer went 2-for-15 with a double and a walk in four games — including a 1-for-4 effort with an extra-base hit against NC State.

As a sophomore, Peifer slashed .305/.409/.495 with 19 doubles, a pair of triples, five home runs and 44 RBI in his best collegiate campaign to this point. He, in the process, became the Dukes’ first-ever Gold Glove Award winner with a .964 fielding percentage.
The rising senior is the Wolfpack’s fourth transfer portal addition of the offseason. Peifer joins rising sophomore right-handed pitchers Collins Black (Duke) and Ryder Garino (South Carolina), and rising sophomore infielder Mikey Ryan (LSU).
