Terquavion Smith enters name into NBA Draft, maintaining eligibility

NC State basketball freshman guard Terquavion Smith, as expected, has put his name into the NBA Draft. Smith made the announcement on Instagram Tuesday morning, and he noted that he will be maintaining his college eligibility.

Smith led the Pack in scoring during ACC play at 18.3 points per game, shooting 40.1 percent on his threes (73 of 182). He was the second-leading vote-getter on the ACC All-Freshman Team and was leading the conference in threes made (96) entering the league tournament. The number of threes made was also a new NC State record for a freshman, topping the 81 made by Maverick Rowan in 2015-16.
For the entire season, Smith averaged 16.3 points per contest. That is technically the second-highest scoring average by a freshman in NC State basketball history, topped by Brandon Costner’s 16.8 points per game in 2006-07. Dennis Smith Jr.’s 18.1 average in 2016-17 was negated by punishments due to infractions in his recruitment.
A recent mock NBA draft from ESPN.com has Smith going in the second round.
Smith is the second NC State basketball player to announce that he is going through the NBA Draft process. Second-team All-ACC redshirt sophomore guard and the ACC’s Most Improved Player Dereon Seabron did so earlier in the month.

Like Smith, Seabron is maintaining his eligibility. Seabron averaged 17.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per contest in 2021-22 and had 12 double-doubles on the season. He also led the Pack with 102 assists and 44 steals.
NC State has been aggressively targeting wings in the transfer portal. Ole Miss junior Luis Rodriguez made an official visit to Raleigh over the weekend.
