NC State redshirt freshman defensive lineman Justin Terrell plans to enter the transfer portal when it opens on Jan. 2 with three years of eligibility remaining, his agency announced via social media.

Terrell did not appear in a game this season after playing in four during his true freshman campaign last fall. He posted one total tackle in his Wolfpack career, which came in the 26-21 loss to East Carolina in the Military Bowl on Dec. 28, as he played 26 total snaps.

He appeared in five defensive snaps against Stanford, six at Georgia Tech, four at UNC and nine against ECU during the 2024 campaign.

The 6-foot-3, 316-pound defensive lineman arrived in Raleigh as a three-star recruit out of Rome (Ga.) High. Terrell ranked the No. 148 defensive line prospect in the Class of 2023.

Terrell is the third Wolfpack player to declare their intentions of entering the transfer portal when it opens, joining offensive lineman Val Erickson and defensive lineman Josh Alexander-Felton. It’s unlikely that trio will play in the Pack’s Gasparilla Bowl appearance against Memphis on Friday after coach Dave Doeren mentioned he wanted only players that were all in to play in the postseason contest.

“I’ve always felt like if a guy’s in the portal, he’s not all in on helping you win. I’ve been fortunate enough to have a team that agrees with me on that. Guys understand my frame of mind,” Doeren said last week. “Going into a game with a guy that’s not all in is hard. You try not to put your mind there with guys. They understand how I’m built. I think that’s why they came here, they want to play for a guy that believes in those kinds of things. But it’s the reality of football right now.”
