NC State football commits in action: week 3

Week 3 of the high school football season is complete, and most of NC State’s 12 class of 2023 commits wrapped up their second matchup of the season. The Wolfpacker put together recaps of the performances. 

On3 Consensus three-star cornerback Brandon Cisse

Sumter (S.C.) Lakewood High

Last game:  Brandon Cisse put up ridiculous numbers in his third game of the season, racking up 301 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 47-23 home win over Columbia (S.C.) Dreher. His stellar performance included a pair of 91-yard touchdowns— 1 on a punt return and another on a long reception.

Team record: 2-1

On3 Consensus three-star safety Tamarcus Cooley

Rolesville (N.C.) High 

Last game: NC State nickel-commit Tamarcus Cooley and Rolesville defeated Wendell (N.C.) East Wake at home, 48-7.

Team record: 2-1

On3 Consensus three-star wide receiver Kevin Concepcion

Charlotte (N.C.) Julius L. Chambers High

Last game: During a dominant 40-0 win for Chambers at Kernersville (N.C.) Glenn High, Kevin Concepcion caught one pop pass for a 10-yard touchdown (officially the stats credited Concepcion with a 10-yard rush).

Season stats: 10 catches for 225 yards and 2 touchdowns, 5 rushes for 58 yards and 1 score

Team record: 2-1 and the No. 3 team in the state according to MaxPreps.com

On3 Consensus four-star safety Daemon Fagan

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) High

Last game: NC State safety-commit Daemon Fagan made 5 total tackles (2 solo) and defended a pass. American Heritage defeated Lakeland (Fla.) Lake Gibson High at home, 42-14.

Season stats: 16 total tackles (9 solo), 3 passes defended

Team record: 3-0. American Heritage is ranked No. 13 in the country according to MaxPreps.com.

On3 Consensus four-star safety Zack Myers

Asheville (N.C.) Christ School

Last game: Zack Myers caught 3 passes for 36 yards and a touchdown in a 35-29 home loss to Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day. He also made 1 tackle.

Season stats: 11 total tackles (including 9 solo and 3 tackles for loss) and 3 passes defended on defense; 6 receptions for 122 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns.

Team record: 1-2

On3 Consensus three-star offensive tackle Obadiah Obasuyi

Alpharetta (Ga.) High

Last game: Obadiah Obasuyi and Alpharetta lost at Milton (Ga.) Cambridge, 43-38. Alpharetta ran for 160 yards and averaged 6.0 yards per carry without allowing a sack in the defeat.

West Charlotte (N.C.) High

Last game: Charlotte (N.C.) Independence defeated Darion Rivers and West Charlotte at home, 28-7.

On3 Consensus three-star defensive lineman Isaiah Shirley

Boone (N.C.) Watauga High

Last game: According to the Watauga Democrat, Isaiah Shirley made 5.5 total tackles in the 28-21 comeback win for Watauga at Bakersfield (N.C.) Mitchell High. He also caught 2 passes for 10 yards.

Wilkesboro (N.C.) Wilkes Central High

Last game: Kamen Smith remained out due to injury during Wilkes Central’s 34-8 home win over Morganton (N.C.) Patton.

On3 Consensus three-star offensive tackle Charlie Symonds

Watertown (Conn.) The Taft School

Last game: The Taft School and Charlie Symonds start their season Sept. 24. Symonds committed to the Wolfpack quickly after his official visit in June.

On3 Consensus three-star quarterback Lex Thomas

Wake Forest (N.C.) Heritage High

Last game: Lex Thomas turned in a super-efficient 14-of-16 passing performance for 235 yards and 2 touchdowns while adding 52 rushing yards in a 57-14 win at Raleigh Broughton.

Season stats: The quarterback has completed 41 of 58 passes for 534 yards and scored 6 total touchdowns. He has also rushed for 182 yards on 20 attempts.

On3 Consensus four-star tight end Javonte Vereen

Havelock (N.C.) High

Last game: Javonte Vereen and Havelock did not play last week.

Season stats: The four-star tight end has scored 5 total touchdowns, racking up 141 receiving yards on 9 catches and rushing for 2 more scores (3 rushes for 15 yards).
