NC State football commits in action: week 4

NC State’s class of 2023 football commits wrapped up another week of their high school senior seasons over the weekend, and a few of them made trips to Raleigh for the Pack’s home-opener as well. The Wolfpacker put together all of the top performances from the future of the program here.

On3 Consensus three-star cornerback Brandon Cisse

Sumter (S.C.) Lakewood High 

Last game:  Brandon Cisse and Lakewood High School lost 54-28 to Aynor (S.C.) High, but the cornerback did haul in a 31-yard touchdown, showing off his elite speed once again on a nice catch-and-run.

Team record: 2-2

On3 Consensus three-star safety Tamarcus Cooley

Rolesville (N.C.) High 

Last game: NC State nickel commit Tamarcus Cooley and Rolesville lost to Durham (N.C.) Hillside High 43-28. The Rams’ secondary held their opponent to 147 passing yards.

Team record: 2-2

On3 Consensus three-star wide receiver Kevin Concepcion

Charlotte (N.C.) Julius L. Chambers High

Last game: Kevin Concepcion missed the game due to injury, but Chambers continued to impress with a 42-21 win over Harrisburg (N.C.) Hickory Ridge High.

Season stats: 10 catches for 225 yards and 2 touchdowns, 5 rushes for 58 yards and 1 score

Team record: 3-1 and the No. 4 team in the state according to MaxPreps.com

On3 Consensus four-star safety Daemon Fagan

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage High

Last game: NC State safety-commit Daemon Fagan had his best game of the season in a 56-0 shutout victory over Belle Glade (Fla.) Glades Central High. The four-star recruit intercepted a pass, returned it 21 yards and made four tackles, including one for loss.

Season stats: 20 tackles (10 solo, 1 tackle for loss), 3 passes defended, 1 interception

Team record: 4-0. American Heritage is ranked No. 13 in the country by MaxPreps.com.

On3 Consensus three-star safety Zack Myers

Asheville (N.C.) Christ School

Last game: Zack Myers also had one of the best games of his senior season last week. He returned an interception 15 yards for a touchdown and caught 3 passes for 81 yards and another touchdown. Myers also added 4 tackles and 2 passes defended in the 40-7 win over Rock Hill (S.C.) Legion Collegiate Academy.

Season stats: 15 total tackles (including 11 solo and 3 tackles for loss) and 5 passes defended on defense; 9 receptions for 203 yards and 3 touchdowns.

On3 Consensus three-star offensive tackle Obadiah Obasuyi

Alpharetta (Ga.) High

Last game: Obadiah Obasuyi and Alpharetta racked up 400 yards of total offense in the 49-8 win over Alpharetta (Ga.) Chattahoochee High.

Team record: 2-1

On3 Consensus three-star offensive tackle Darion Rivers

West Charlotte (N.C.) High

Last game: Darion Rivers picked up the second win of his senior season in a 48-8 blowout of Charlotte (N.C.) Garinger High.

Team record: 2-2

On3 Consensus three-star defensive lineman Isaiah Shirley

Boone (N.C.) Watauga High

Last game: Isaiah Shirley and Watauga lost 48-28 to Lawndale (N.C.) Burns High, but the lineman made seven tackles, including one for loss, defended 1 pass and recorded a sack.

Season stats: 24 tackles (13 solo, 3.5 for loss), 2.5 sacks, 1 pass defended and 3 receptions for 26 yards.

Team record: 3-1

On3 Consensus three-star offensive lineman Kamen Smith

Wilkesboro (N.C.) Wilkes Central High

Last game: Kamen Smith remained out due to injury during Wilkes Central’s 36-16 loss to Ronda (N.C.) East Wilkes High.

Team record: 2-2

On3 Consensus three-star offensive tackle Charlie Symonds

Watertown (Conn.) The Taft School

Last game: The Taft School and Charlie Symonds start their season Sept. 24. Symonds committed to the Wolfpack quickly after his official visit in June.

On3 Consensus three-star quarterback Lex Thomas

Wake Forest (N.C.) Heritage High

Last game: Lex Thomas did not play in Heritage’s 62-35 win over Raleigh (N.C.) Sanderson High.

Season stats: The quarterback has completed 41 of 58 passes for 534 yards and 3 touchdowns. He has also rushed for 182 yards on 20 attempts and added 3 more scores. 

Team record: 4-0

On3 Consensus four-star tight end Javonte Vereen

Havelock (N.C.) High

Last game: Javonte Vereen continued his impressive season over the weekend, catching 4 passes for 60 yards and scoring a touchdown. He also took his 1 handoff of the game 13 yards to the end zone during the 30-0 win over Vanceboro (N.C.) West Craven High.

Season stats: The four-star tight end has scored 7 touchdowns, racking up 201 receiving yards on 13 catches and rushing for 3 scores (4 rushes for 28 yards).
