NC State football commits in action: Week 9

NC State’s class of 2023 football commits wrapped up another week of their high school senior seasons over the weekend. The Wolfpacker put together all of the top performances from the future of the program. 

On3 Consensus three-star cornerback Brandon Cisse

Sumter (S.C.) Lakewood High 

Last game:  Brandon Cisse scored 3 touchdowns, and Lakewood picked up a 50-22 win over Bennettsville (S.C.) Marlboro County High.

Team record: 4-4

On3 Consensus three-star safety Tamarcus Cooley

Rolesville (N.C.) High 

Last game: Rolesville’s matchup with Knightdale High was postponed to Monday night.  

Team record: 5-2

On3 Consensus three-star wide receiver Kevin Concepcion

Charlotte (N.C.) Julius L. Chambers High

Last game: In a dominant 41-7 senior night win over Huntersville (N.C.) North Mecklenburg High, Kevin Concepcion caught 3 passes for 78 yards and a touchdown, while also taking one handoff for 10 yards. The star receiver showed off some explosiveness on special teams, returning a kickoff 60 yards.

Season stats: 18 catches for 371 yards and 4 touchdowns, 7 rushes for 73 yards and 1 score in five games.

Team record: 6-2 and the No. 4 team in the state according to MaxPreps.com

On3 Consensus four-star safety Daemon Fagan

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage High

Last game: NC State safety commit Daemon Fagan and American Heritage shut out Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Stranahan High 24-0.

Season stats: 46 tackles (18 solo, 3 tackles for loss), 8 passes defended, 1 fumble recovery and 2 interceptions.

Team record: 7-1. American Heritage is ranked No. 13 in the country by MaxPreps.com.

On3 Consensus three-star running back Kyron Jones

Charlotte (N.C.) Christian School

Last Game: Kyron Jones carried the ball 15 times for 84 yards and 2 touchdowns in a massive 38-37 win over Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day School. He also caught 1 pass for 2 yards, defended 3 passes and made 5 tackles (3 solo).

Season stats: 71 carries for 823 yards and 11 scores plus 13 catches for 162 yards and 3 more TDs in 7 games. Has added 17 tackles, including 1 for loss, and 3 pass breakups. 

Team record: 6-2

On3 Consensus three-star safety Zack Myers

Asheville (N.C.) Christ School

Last game:  Zack Myers and Christ School defeated Charlotte (N.C.) Country Day School 24-13. The elite athlete had an incredibly explosive day, catching 2 passes for 131 yards and 2 touchdowns. On defense, he recorded an interception and 3 total tackles.

Season stats: 25 total tackles (including 17 solo and 4 tackles for loss), 2 interceptions and 5 passes defended on defense; 25 receptions for 636 yards and 8 touchdowns on offense. 

Team record: 4-4

On3 Consensus three-star offensive tackle Obadiah Obasuyi

Alpharetta (Ga.) High

Last game: Alpharetta and Obadiah Obasuyi defeated Marietta (Ga.) Lassiter High 70-21.

Team record: 5-2

On3 Consensus three-star offensive tackle Darion Rivers

West Charlotte (N.C.) High

Last game: Darion Rivers and West Charlotte had a bye week.

Team record: 4-4

On3 Consensus three-star defensive lineman Isaiah Shirley

Boone (N.C.) Watauga High

Last game: Isaiah Shirley made 2 tackles in Watauga’s 55-7 win over Lenoir (N.C.) Hibriten High.

Season stats: 49 tackles (25 solo, 10 for loss), 5.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 2 passes defended and 3 receptions for 26 yards. 

Team record: 7-1

On3 Consensus three-star offensive lineman Kamen Smith

Wilkesboro (N.C.) Wilkes Central High

Last game: Kamen Smith and Wilkes Central defeated Millers Creek (N.C.) West Wilkes High 26-7. The lineman had multiple tackles for loss on defense and rarely came off the field, playing both left and right tackle on offense.

Team record: 6-3

Watertown (Conn.) The Taft School

Last game: The Taft School and Charlie Symonds lost 35-0 to Wallingford (Conn.) Choate Rosemary Hall School.

Team record: 2-2

On3 Consensus three-star quarterback Lex Thomas

Wake Forest (N.C.) Heritage High

Last game: Lex Thomas confirmed his season with Heritage is over in a recent Instagram post.

Season stats: The quarterback completed 41 of 58 passes for 534 yards and 3 touchdowns over three games. He has also rushed for 182 yards on 20 attempts and added 3 more scores. 

Team record: 6-2

On3 Consensus four-star tight end Javonte Vereen

Havelock (N.C.) High

Last game: In a 50-11 win over Winterville (N.C.) South Central High, Javonte Vereen caught 7 passes for 147 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Season stats: The four-star NC State-commit has caught 52 passes for 719 yards and 8 touchdowns and rushed for 29 yards and 4 more scores.

Team record: 6-2
