Four more NC State football players ink NFL deals

Four more NC State football players joined those who inked NFL contracts after going undrafted over the weekend. That brings the total to nine former Wolfpackers overall to have landed pro opportunities.

Safety Tanner Ingle, the heart and soul of the NC State secondary, was signed by the Los Angeles Rams, who also previously inked former Wolfpack kicker and Lou Groza Award winner Christopher Dunn.

Ingle was a two-time All-ACC performer, making first team in 2021 and second team this past fall. He finished his NC State football career with 310 tackles, including 23 for loss and 2.5 sacks. He also had 3 interceptions, 16 pass breakups and 3 forced fumbles. His last pick may have been his most memorable, an acrobatic interception at North Carolina to help NC State go ahead 24-17 late in the fourth quarter of what would be a dramatic double overtime win.

Ingle is a native of Orlando, Fla., who was originally committed to Tennessee before a coaching change in Knoxville led to a flip to NC State.

Dunn and Ingle could probably swing an affordable roommate situation in Los Angeles with Chargers-bound defensive back Tyler Baker-Williams. Baker-Williams was a two-time honorable mention All-ACC performer from the nickel position in the NC State defense.

Injuries limited Baker-Williams throughout his career, including just 6 games as a super senior this past fall. However, he was a productive and effective starter when healthy, finishing with 153 career tackles, including 13 for loss and 3 sacks. He also had 5 interceptions and 22 pass breakups.

Baker-Williams is a local product of Southeast Raleigh High who earned an offer from NC State football after an impressive performance at its summer camp in 2017.

Cornerback Derrek Pitts Jr. is headed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Dunbar, W.Va. native played 2 seasons for NC State football after transferring in from Marshall. He began his career at West Virginia.

Pitts was a primary starter in 2021 and had 43 tackles, 2 interceptions and 8 pass breakups. In 2022, Pitts gave way as a first stringer to Aydan White but was still a frequent performer in the rotation at corner, and he finished with 51 tackles and 6 pass breakups.

Getting an opportunity to show what he is capable of doing is punter Shane McDonough, who will have a mini-camp invite with the Green Bay Packers. McDonough averaged 41.4 yards on 40 punts this past season, his lone with NC State football. The former Towson grad transfer who began his career at Marshall was replaced after suffering an injury by walk-on Caden Noonkester, who held onto the position after averaging 43.0 yards on 29 punts.
