SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Even though NC State went into No. 16 Notre Dame with a beat up defense as injuries have revenged the Wolfpack's secondary for much of the season, the unit gave the team a chance in the first half before the Irish coasted to a 36-7 win on Saturday afternoon. Graduate linebacker Caden Fordham and redshirt freshman safety Ronnie Royal III tied for the team lead with 10 total tackles, while redshirt freshman defensive back Asaad Brown Jr. posted nine stops with an interception. NC State, as a team, logged two total sacks with four tackles for a loss in the defeat. Defensive end Travali Price posted a sack, while graduate linebacker Tra Thomas and Fordham logged 0.5 sacks each. Redshirt junior nickel Jackson Vick and redshirt freshman linebacker Zane Williams posted 0.5 tackles for a loss as well. Graduate defensive end Sabastian Harsh was the highest-graded defender with a 78.5 grade, while senior cornerbacks Jamel Johnson and Devon Marshall were the Pack's only defensive players to post marks above 70.0 in the defeat. Let’s take a look at NC State’s full list of initial PFF grades and snap counts with notes to put some of the data into context.
