NC State safety Jakeen Harris enters transfer portal

NC State safety Jakeen Harris is in the transfer portal, On3 learned on Wednesday evening. He is the 10th Wolfpack player to either announce his intent or to enter the transfer portal this year.
The Savannah, Ga., native played in one game this season before suffering a season-ending torn pec injury in the season opener at UConn.
“Prayers for Jakeen; a guy that works as hard as anybody in this locker room and was going to play a huge part in our defense this year,” NC State coach Dave Doeren said after Harris’ season was cut short. “It always hurts losing the starter that has that much game experience.”
Harris remained in a player-coach role this season after his year ended prematurely. He appeared in 29 career games across five seasons with the Wolfpack and made 80 total tackles.
Harris recorded a career-best 38 tackles, including 21 solo stops, during the 2021 season — his only campaign in which he appeared in all 12 games with the Wolfpack. He led the defense with 855 snaps in the 2021 season, and it was the third-highest mark on the team.

Harris was a standout safety at Benedictine Military School, where he logged 269 tackles, including 195 solo stops. He also recorded 11 interceptions in his four-year high school career, where he was a three-star recruit, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
Harris joined the following players to declare their intention to transfer or to enter the portal already:
– RB Michael Allen
– CB Darius Edmundson
– WR Anthony Smith
– TE Christopher Toudle
– RB Jordan Houston
– LB Daejuan Thompson
– CB Nate Evans

Based on TheWolfpacker.com’s scholarship count, Harris’ departure would bring NC State down to 82 total scholarships for the 2024 season once the 20 prep signees officially join the program.
