NC State lands 3-star RB Dylan McCoy following official visit

It didn’t take long for NC State to build momentum in June. Buford (Ga.) three-star running back Dylan McCoy pledged to the Wolfpack during his trip to Raleigh last weekend and made it official on Saturday evening.
He joins Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy three-star defensive lineman Carmelo McKenzie as recruits to commit to NC State from that weekend of visits.
McCoy, the No. 66 running back in the 2026 cycle, is the Pack’s first tailback of the recruiting class. He committed to NC State over the likes of Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma and Texas among other name-brand programs nationally.
Although McCoy’s first two seasons of Varsity football didn’t have eye-popping numbers — 126 carries for 617 yards with six touchdowns in 20 games — the running back did so on a powerhouse program at Buford. He was in more of a consistent role as a junior with 91 attempts for 428 yards and four scores with 4.7 yards per carry this past fall.

The Wolfpack was able to land his commitment through a relationship with running backs coach Todd Goebbel. He was on campus for a junior day event this past February before returning to see NC State for a spring practice visit.
McCoy’s two recent recruiting trips to NC State led to him booking an official visit for June 13, which he then moved up under the radar to this weekend, where the Wolfpack was able to close for his commitment.
McCoy, a 5-foot-10, 196-pound back, is NC State’s sixth pledge of the 2026 cycle. He joins Paramus (N.J.) Catholic three-star linebacker Jordan Moreta, Richmond (Va.) Trinity Episcopal three-star tackle Brady Sakowitz, Baltimore (Md.) Milford Mill Academy three-star safety Koby Sarkodie and Pfafftown (N.C.) Reagan three-star quarterback Jacob Smith.
