NC State baseball enters the final weekend of the regular season with a chance to make history with Stanford visiting Doak Field.

The 13th-ranked Wolfpack has an opportunity to claim its first ACC regular season title since 1986, which would be its first league trophy of any kind since 1992. NC State currently sits a half-game behind No. 2 Florida State heading into the weekend, while it also has a half-game lead on No.4 North Carolina — the Seminoles’ opponent this weekend.

So how could the Pack earn 29th-year skipper Elliott Avent his first conference trophy this weekend? There are two paths to the moment.

If NC State sweeps Stanford and Florida State loses at least one game to UNC, the Wolfpack takes the crown. If the Pack wins two of three against the Cardinal, NC State would need UNC to win two of three over Florida State and Georgia Tech would not be able to sweep No. 20 Duke.

But if the Seminoles sweep the Tar Heels or the Wolfpack does not win its series against the Cardinal, then the trophy will not be headed to Raleigh.

This is an important week for both NC State’s ACC Tournament seeding, while it’s equally as pivotal for Avent’s legacy with the Wolfpack. The manager has led NC State to three College World Series appearances, including two in the last four years, and an ACC title is the only major feat still missing from Avent’s resume.

That could change this week. NC State’s three-game series against Stanford opens on Thursday night at 6 p.m. in Raleigh.

Quote of the day

The Pack has been recruiting Hillsborough (N.C.) Caldwell Academy four-star small forward Cole Cloer for more than a year. Wade and his staff are continuing those efforts with North Carolina’s top-ranked 2026 prospect.

“I love him,” Cloer said of Wade. “He’s a great coach. Great coach at LSU, great coach at McNeese. Now, he’s at a great program like NC State, hopefully he’ll get them back on the right track where they should be.”
