NC State baseball sophomore infielder Payton Green has entered the transfer portal, per a report from D1Baseball.com. After spending his first two seasons with the Wolfpack, he will now look for a new collegiate home.

He started 111 of 112 career games at NC State. During his sophomore year, Green hit .274 in 208 at-bats, including 10 home runs and 45 RBIs. The infielder also finished the year with a .950 fielding percentage.

Coming out of high school, the Cary, North Carolina, was the No. 8 prospect in the state, according to GoPack.com. He started 57 games at shortstop and third base as a freshman.

Green is the fourth member of the Pack to enter the portal. Pitcher Tristan Sipple, infielder Isaiah Barkett and outfielder Michael Gupton are all transferring as well. All three of them were freshmen during the 2023 season.

NC State quote of the day

This quote is from Doeren, discussing the Wolfpack’s quarterback competition.

“I think in the spring, we started it as a competition and as it went, you could see [Brennan Armstrong’s] experience was just there. [MJ Morris’] talent and his improvement, it’s awesome. But you got a 23-year old a 19-year old and you really want MJ have what he should have, the year to develop behind him.

“As we know, that’s not a promise because I can’t predict what’s going to happen. But that’s what you’d love to see happen. … But I’m super excited about MJ and super excited about Brennan, and I think both of them are great guys and great leaders. They do a lot for our football team.

“So, we’ll see where it goes. But that’s where we’re at today.”
